Vitamin E is an antioxidant that hydrates, soothes, strengthens and protects our skin. At Grown Alchemist, we have incorporated Vitamin E into many of our skincare products because Vitamin E is so effective and provides a range of benefits to the skin. In this blog post, we will explore why Vitamin E is important for skin, its benefits, its uses and how Grown Alchemist uses it in a range of products.
What is Vitamin E?
Vitamin E is a hydrating, barrier-boosting antioxidant important for the maintenance of healthy skin. It exists in several forms but is usually found in oil or cream form. It can be found in avocados, pumpkins and wheat germ oil. The most common form found in cosmetics or topical moisturizers is often referred to as Tocopherol.
Why Vitamin E is Good for Skin
It is very hydrating because it works as a humectant (to absorb water into the skin) and, also as an emollient (to trap water in the skin). It is known for its soothing, healing and photo-protective properties. Vitamin E plays an important role in helping prevent UV-induced free radical damage to skin and may also provide an important anti-inflammatory role for skin*.
Vitamin E Skin Benefits
Strengthens – Provides reinforcement to skin barrier, helps it stay healthy and intact, so moisture doesn’t escape.
Hydration – Vitamin E is a humectant attracting moisture and pulling it into the skin making it more supple.
Moisturization – Help seal in moisture, boost moisture retention so skin stays moisturized.
Anti-Aging – Fights the effects of free radicals, UV-induced damage that can lead to premature aging.
Healing – Vitamin E can help boost skin’s moisture which is beneficial to damaged or irritated skin*.
Soothing – Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory properties so it can condition skin that feels dry and rough, while calming irritation.
How to Use Vitamin E Skincare
When it comes to Vitamin E for face applications, it is usually incorporated into moisturizers, hand creams and other skincare products as one of several ingredients, so it can be used regularly -- even daily for many skin types. Sensitive skin types may want to do a patch test with the product first.
